Terms of use

The rules for using GradeLocal, in plain words.

Last updated October 13, 2026

Who we are

GradeLocal (gradelocal.us) is run by GradeLocal. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean GradeLocal, and "you" means anyone who uses the site. By using GradeLocal you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

What GradeLocal is

GradeLocal is for informational purposes only. GradeLocal shows restaurant health inspection results copied from public records published by health departments, and star ratings from GradeLocal members. GradeLocal isn't part of, endorsed by or affiliated with any health department or government agency.

Inspection results are for information only

  • Results come from public records and are shown as they were published. We may make mistakes copying them, and the records themselves may contain mistakes.
  • A result shows one inspection on one day. A restaurant may have been inspected again since, and conditions can change at any time.
  • The At a glance letter is GradeLocal's own quick read of the official result. It is not an official grade unless the agency issued that letter.
  • For the official, current record, check with the health department. Don't rely on GradeLocal alone for decisions about your health or safety.

Member accounts

You need an account to rate a restaurant. Give a real email address, keep your password private, and tell us if you think someone else is using your account. You're responsible for what happens under your account. You must be at least 13 years old to make an account.

Rating rules

Ratings are your own opinion of the food and the visit. When you rate a place:

  • Rate only places you've been to.
  • Don't rate your own restaurant, a place you work for, or a competitor.
  • Don't accept payment, discounts or gifts for a rating.
  • Don't use more than one account to rate the same place.

We may remove ratings that break these rules or look fake, and we may close accounts that break them. Ratings never change a restaurant's inspection result.

Restaurant owners

Owners can ask us to correct a listing's name, address or phone. We check every request against the health department's permit record before changing anything. We can't change an inspection result. It changes only when the health department publishes a new one. If you think we copied a result wrong, tell us and we'll check it against the public record.

Using the site fairly

Don't:

  • copy the site's data in bulk, or scrape it with bots or scripts
  • try to get into parts of the site or accounts you aren't allowed into
  • overload the site, or interfere with how it works
  • use the site for anything illegal

Our content

The site's design, text and the way the data is organized belong to GradeLocal. The underlying public records belong to the agencies that publish them. Links to other sites, including agency sites, are for your convenience. We don't control those sites.

No warranties

GradeLocal is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promises that the site will be accurate, complete, current, available or free of errors.

Limits on our liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, GradeLocal and its owner won't be liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for any loss that comes from using or relying on the site. If we are found liable for anything, our total liability is limited to $100.

Changes

We may change these terms. When we do, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Using the site after a change means you accept the new terms.

Law that applies

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
