What GradeLocal collects, why, and what you can do about it.

Who we are
GradeLocal (gradelocal.us) is run by GradeLocal. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
- Account details. Your email address and your password, which we store in scrambled (hashed) form, not as plain text.
- Your ratings. The stars you give each place, and when you gave them.
- Messages you send us. Owner requests and waitlist sign-ups, including the email address and anything you write.
- Basic site data. Our host, Cloudflare, records things like pages visited, browser type and rough location, to run and protect the site.
Cookies
When you log in, we set one cookie to keep you logged in. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
How we use it
- to run your account and show your ratings
- to send sign-in links and reply to your messages
- to tell you when a state you asked about is added
- to keep the site working, and to stop abuse and fake ratings
We don't sell your information, and we don't share it for advertising.
What others can see
Ratings are shown as an average and a count. We don't show your email address or your name next to your rating.
Who helps us run the site
We use service providers to host the site, store data and send email. Cloudflare is our host. They only get what they need to do that work for us. We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the site and its users.
How long we keep it
We keep account details and ratings until you delete your account. We keep messages for as long as we need them to handle your request. Waitlist emails are kept until the state is added or you ask us to remove you.
Your choices
You can ask us to show you, correct or delete your information, or to close your account, by emailing hello@gradelocal.us. There is no self-serve delete button yet; we handle these requests by hand, and when we delete an account we delete its ratings too.
Children
GradeLocal isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has made an account, tell us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
